God doesn't just want spectators, ask yourself...

"WHAT MUST I DO.... ?"

How long have you been reading the literature of the Churches of God? Two months? Two years? Maybe ten years?

Our readers come from all backgrounds, with all kinds of religious commitment - or none. Some read a few booklets, and suddenly it's as if a bright light were switched on. Within a few months they are baptized, and have become a part of the Family of God. Others read - and ignore it.

Yet others go on reading, and on, and on ... ! They build a huge library of booklets, brochures, tapes. They amass a vast knowledge of the Scriptures. But it never seems to lead anywhere. There's a fascination in learning what the Bible really says. It's stimulating to see "mysteries" cleared up. To see how "Bible discrepancies" can be readily resolved. And for many, such matters are a necessary foundation for commitment to Jesus Christ.

But, you know, there's a danger in this. The danger lies simply in the accumulation of "knowledge" for its own sake.

A Question of Choice

The Bible is both a blunt implement and a sharp instrument. Some will take it and use it to bludgeon an opponent. Left to itself or in skilled hands, it can accomplish an eternal purpose: it can lead to a changed heart, and to eternal life.

God, however, doesn't force us to obey Him. He has indeed "commanded all men everywhere to repent". But there is no coercion! It's for each of us to choose whether or not to obey. And it is easy to be so intrigued by the technicality of Bible teachings that we miss its purpose. That purpose is to reconcile us to the Eternal God through the means He has freely and lovingly extended to us - through His only-begotten [ABCOG: Gk. monogenes = "one-of-a-kind"] Son, Jesus Christ.

So - what do you think of Jesus Christ?

Are you, through His ministry, now reconciled to the Father God through the forgiveness extended in Jesus? Or, is the truth you learn through the Church of God merely an intellectual exercise? Just another viewpoint? Is it knowledge that fascinates - but otherwise leaves you untouched? Has your "brush with God" in the Scriptures worked in you a heart-felt change - in your thinking, in the depths of your being, in your life-style?

God wants all of us to come to repentance. That repentance is extended to us as a gift and from the depths of the goodness of God. But each of us has a "window of opportunity" to turn to God. It will not do to imagine that we can be friends of the world just a little longer. That our excuses to postpone decision will pacify God. That we will - later on when it's convenient - have a "death-bed repentance". For that window of opportunity may at that time be closed!

For what is your life? It can today be in full fruitfulness. But like a puff of wind may be gone in a moment! Now is the time to grasp your opportunity to become a part of the most permanent institution that has ever existed, or ever will exist - the Family of God. Now is the time to turn your life around. To confess that it was you and your sin that crucified Jesus Christ. To ask our loving heavenly Father for His forgiveness. And to have your name enrolled in the Lamb's Book of Life.

What God has treasured up for those who surrender their lives to His will, who obey Him and who pattern their lives on His perfect reflection, Jesus Christ, is far beyond our wildest dreams. God has given us a choice. We can spend all eternity in active service as His Sons and Daughters. Or we can choose to be excluded from His Kingdom, to allow our life's experiences to be without purpose - and to be destroyed in the fiery holocaust that is destined to dissolve our planet.

God now commands you to CHOOSE!
